About

Honestly, I’m the kind of person who forgets to introduce himself because I’m more interested in hearing about you than talking about me. But, here we go.

I’m an illustrator, author, and educator, and although I’m now living in the suburbs of Tokyo, I’m originally from the US where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in fine art and illustration from Marywood University. Most of my work has focused on educational materials like illustrated books of English vocabulary, and education continues to be a big part of my creative life.

The Switch to Digital

For years, I loved working in traditional media like guoache, but over time, I found it restricting and time-consuming for some projects.

A little boy boking through a broken board in a fence and handing an ice cream to a ghost girl, in the background a fair or carnival is being held.

So, I made the leap to digital media. Getting used to using Procreate took some time, but it also led to a fresh start in my art.

Inspirations

Life’s a lot of fun when you choose to make it so. The life I choose is one of curiosity, reading, and art – a world of sharing and exploring. Getting it isn’t easy. I’d love to spend my days going to galleries and losing my mind over great paintings. In reality, most days see me teaching, or proofreading, or looking out the window thinking about the things I really love.

I KNOW an illustration is working when this guy likes it.

Halloween is hands down the most egalitarian holiday.

I like a little of every genre, but the music I keep coming back to is punk.

He’s a bundle of claws and teeth, but my cat is the best.

It’s easy to lose your mind in the presense of real beauty.

Give me a really old-school horror movie any day.

Before I was priced out, the Spartan race was my favorite sport.

I’m slightly obsessed with the classic Schott Perfecto motorcycle jacket.
